FAQ : Guest Lists
Q. Because my wedding is so small (30 person guest list), I’m wondering if it’s OK to invite guests to the bridal shower if they are not invited to the wedding?
A. There are many ways in which wedding etiquette has evolved to meet the needs of the modern bride, but this is not one of them. You can’t expect someone to come to the shower bearing gifts if you haven’t invited her to the wedding; it...

Did You Know
Tradition states that the first bridal shower was given to a poor couple in Holland who was denied the bridal dowry because of the groom’s lowly miller status. The miller’s friends gathered to “shower” the bride with items she’d need to make a new home and enter into marriage.

Don’t fret! You can make your own vintage cake stands. And it only takes a few...

DIY Edible Flower Girl Favors
Supplies:
Satin or grosgrain ribbon in your color palette
Tapestry needle
Assorted gum balls in your palette
Instructions:
Use the tapestry needle to pierce the gum ball halfway through. You will have to push hard, but I found the best success by balancing the needle on it’s end, and pushing the gum ball down the shaft. Only drive the needle halfway through, or the ball will crack.

How to Fold A Suit Pocket Square
A debonair alternative to a boutonniere for the groom or for the men in the wedding party is a neatly folded pocket square. It’s a particularly nice choice for a suit or morning jacket worn at a daytime event. The square should coordinate with the color of the tie and suit.
There are a dozen ways to fold a square but here’s a chic, modern one.
Start with a handkerchief that is 15...

DIY: Peony Coffee Filter Flowers
Turning humble materials into something beautiful is an admirable skill. Whenever you think you’ve seen the prettiest thing, something else comes along and blows your mind! These gorgeous blossoms are similar to the ones sold in kits that are made with tissue paper, but even tissue paper can be kind of pricey, and it doesn’t always come in the full range of colors you want. Enter these amazing...

DIY Anthropologie-inspired necklace

A few things to note:
I strung the pearls on one 64″ strand of jewelry wire, folded in half. You can use two completely separate strands of pearls if you don’t want to deal with the hassle of figuring out the jewelry clasp and all that.

Wedding Ceremony Escort - Walking Down The Aisle
There are no set rules on who has the honor of escorting a bride down the aisle. Traditionally the father walks the bride down the aisle, but with modern non-traditional families this is not always an option.
Here are some ideas for non-traditional family situations.
Deceased Father or Absentee Father
You can walk down the aisle by yourself. Or you can ask your mother, stepfather, brother or a...

Bride marries in Wool Dress shorn from her...
And the bride wore white – long, curly white strands of wool.
Louise Fairburn, who is an award-winning sheep breeder, decided to get married in a fleece from her own flock.
She designed the gown and took wool from her favorite rare Lincoln Longwool, Olivia. The dress, which cost $1,750, took a spinner and dressmaker 67 hours to make. But it was worth it, as her husband said he was ‘blown...

Balloon Release
A fun idea for an outdoor ceremony is to give each guest a helium-filled balloon to hold during the ceremony. Then after you are pronounced husband and wife the groom kisses his bride, and your guests release their balloons into the air and applaud.
For an indoor ceremony simply hand balloons to guests as they leave the church…once everyone is gathered around the bride & groom release...

Wedding Cake Disasters
Most brides think that bringing in a photo of their dream wedding cake will help clarify for their bakers what it is that they want and expect on their big day. [shaking head] Those sweet, silly girls. In reality, these photos are more like “guidelines.” A springboard, if you will, from which the baker may or may not spring - and then delve into unheard-of realms of artistic...
